Rock Candy's pedigree comes from Alien Genetics' notes on SeedFinder, the feminized grow numbers come from Blimburn Seeds, and potency and effects come from AllBud, Weedmaps and Leafly. Genetics & origin

Where does the Rock Candy strain come from?

Rock Candy traces back to Alien Genetics, which crossed a Sour Dubble female with its Tahoe Alien male and named the result Alien Rock Candy. Sour Dubble is a short, stocky sour cut that Weedmaps says is generally believed to come from East Coast Sour Diesel and Sour Bubble, though its exact background is unconfirmed. Tahoe Alien brings OG Kush structure and fuel through its own parents, Tahoe OG and Alien Kush.

Alien Genetics sold the cross only as regular seeds, which it described as easy to grow and clone and ready in about 56 days. Later seed makers kept the name: THC Development Seed Company made a regular F2 line, while Blimburn Seeds and Dr. Blaze sell feminized versions. Shops and AllBud often drop the word Alien, which is how the plain Rock Candy name spread.

Is Rock Candy the same as Alien Rock Candy?

In most strain databases, yes: Rock Candy is the shortened name of Alien Rock Candy, the Sour Dubble × Tahoe Alien cross. AllBud's Rock Candy page gives the same parents and breeder and lists Alien Rock Candy as the other name. Weedmaps also files ARC and Alien Candy under that one strain, although Leafly keeps a separate Alien Candy page that names Sour Bubble instead of Sour Dubble as a parent.

Other Rock Candy names are different plants. New England Rock Candy, Rootbeer Rock Candy, Gelato Rock Candy and Apple Rock Candy are separate crosses or descendants, and some dispensary flower sold as plain Rock Candy has no published lineage at all.

Reported effects

Rock Candy usually opens with a cheerful, euphoric lift and then settles into heavy relaxation, according to reviews on Leafly, Weedmaps and AllBud. Larger amounts often turn sleepy, so most people save it for the evening. Alien Genetics described its own selection as more invigorating, a sign that Rock Candy phenotypes can differ.

  • Euphoric

  • Sleepy
  • Hungry

Rock Candy's most reported downsides are dry mouth, dry eyes and dizziness, and AllBud reviewers warn that its sedation can be strong for new users.

Grow guide

How do you grow Rock Candy seeds?

Rock Candy seeds suit newer growers: the feminized plants stay short and bushy, take training well, flower in about 8 to 10 weeks under 12/12 and finish outdoors in October.

  1. Germinate3–7 days

Rock Candy seedlings build a thick main stem early; Blimburn describes one large stem carrying several satellite branches.

  2. Vegetate4–5 weeks indoors

Keep veg short for a sea-of-green run, or top once and spread the side branches into a flat canopy.

  3. Flower8–10 weeks

Rock Candy stretches only modestly after the 12/12 switch, then fills in with dense, resin-coated buds.

  4. HarvestWeek 8–10 indoors · October outdoors

Take plants when most trichomes are cloudy and dry them slowly to protect the citrus candy aroma.

Grow tips for Rock Candy

  • Use the short frame. Rock Candy tops out around 1.5 m, so it fits tents with limited headroom and works well in SOG setups with many small plants.
  • Open up the center. The bushy, indica-style structure packs leaves around the colas. Clear inner growth so the dense buds get airflow.
  • Watch humidity late in bloom. Rock-hard buds hold moisture, so keep late-flower humidity low and avoid wetting the foliage.
  • Smell-test your keepers. Weedmaps notes that Rock Candy releases vary, with some plants calmer or sleepier than others, so pick a mother plant by aroma before cloning.
  • Outdoors, pick a mild climate. Blimburn rates Rock Candy for temperate and Mediterranean conditions and an October finish, so it needs a dry autumn.

sneaky strong. started with a giggle and ended in a heavy chill. flavor was sweet and citrusy, like candy with a kick. didn’t knock me out, but definitely slowed me down. felt super relaxed, still had thoughts bouncing around, but in a good way. not super productive after, but great for just vibing.

The fragrance and flavor of this strain are notably sweet, inducing a gentle euphoria and a relaxing body sensation. Rocky Candy helps me a lot especially when it comes on relieving my anxiety and insomnia. It helps me to have a better sleep. As i’ve been trying to cultivate this strain outdoors and it takes me for just about 7 to 9 weeks of growing this and it grows easily. It has a flavor and smell of sweet, fruity, citrus and lemon. It releases my stress and discomfort at the same time.

  5. Avatar for Janet Profit

    Janet Profit –

To me, the greatest strain!!! This is very easy to grow and this only takes me 7-9 weeks to flower. It has a citrusy mix of lemon flavor and aroma. It makes me feel simultaneously stress-free and uplifted.  It has neon-green nugs with some orange fur that are oversized, lumpy, and littered. Its nugs are covered with sweet and oily resin.  This relieves my tiredness, insomnia, anxiety, nausea, muscle spasms, arthritis, and fibromyalgia, but I sometimes experience dry mouth and dry eyes when I take a lot of it. Overall, I really love it!!!

I would definitely recommend this to my friends!

Of all the indica-dominants that I have tried, this is probably the best! Beaver Seeds were not lying when they said that this produces top yield and you are guaranteed a good, good harvest after just 7 weeks. And its buds? Well, they are indeed healthy and compact. The scent also adds up the awesomeness that it already has. This is a strain that you should not overlook!
